Formed sometime around 2014 when Rae answered Jon's advert in a lonely hearts column, The Rioters developed from a failed tryst into a functioning (just about) band. Though the physical bond between the two was never realised, they did have a common interest in long walks on the beach, professional dog grooming and most importantly good ol' fashioned punk with a political slant and a back to basics DIY approach. They started by playing around various open mics as a duo before they decided that a rhythm section might be worth a shot.

What followed was a number of false starts and various try outs with many of the line ups disbanded quicker than a communist regime in South America circa the 1970s. However throughout this tumultuous revolvling door of musicians, many of whom remain close friends, the band's sound took shape and songs were forged. The band found their current drummer almost by accident. He was mistakenly at a tupperware party that had descended from an honest opportunity to peruse durable food storage into something altogether less savoury. Needless to say in a stupor he consented to his details being passed on as he had on occasion dabbled in percussion.

This exchange was promptly forgotten, but a few weeks later a mysterious message summoned him to the now defunct Enterprise rehearsal space in Denmark Street. After a rather impromptu Native American inspired initiation, regrettably devoid of a vision quest, Colin joined the band and has remained behind the  sticks ever since.

There followed another line up change before Kay arrived like the answer to a prayer (albeit a strictly secular atheist one, maybe more of a psychic ordering; hey it worked for Noel Emonds). She took to the four strings with aplomb and laid down steady basslines with a refreshing verve. Since her arrival the band has settled into gigging frequently aside from a few mishaps, the less said about the North Welsh law enforcement the better.

Somewhere into this shambolic grouping stumbled a man whom no account of the various misadventures of the band should forget to mention. Conjecture is rife as to what his original intentions were, some say he was a frustrated Jazz singer who heard Rae scatting one day and never left, others brand him a mystic whose presence is merely part of some much greater malevolent plan. Whatever the truth of the matter James variously fulfils the role of roadie, merch-seller, groupie and of course Jon minder, a postion that isn't bestowed on just anyone. You can find him at gigs working the crowd, even if said crowd consists of only him and a bemused patron who just wanted to nip to the loo.

Looking forward the band anticipate that if you managed to read to the end of this then you might just make to it one of their gigs, and who knows maybe you'll like the din they call a set. Sometimes they even have a horn section, well one guy on a saxophone  Calum, who substantiates their claim to incorporate elements of Ska. Keep an eye out for their next EP, coming soon to a charity shop near you.
